A statement on President Trump’s attack on the free press:
The Manchester Scoop stands behind CNN, and strongly denounces President Trump’s attack on the free press. The press has a responsibility to the truth, and a duty to hold Politicians responsible for their actions. President Trump has a constitutional obligation to protect the right of the free press. President Trump’s personal attacks on Mr. Acosta for asking a question, relating to a lie spouted by Mr. Trump, were greatly inappropriate. The further revocation of Mr. Acosta’s press pass for knowingly false accusations of physical aggression towards a White House staffer during Mr. Trump’s verbal attack; are grossly inappropriate.
The physical aggression that Acosta is accused happens when a White House aid attempts to forcibly remove Acosta's microphone; in which his arm hits her arm. As seen in the video below; he is making a hand motion when she attempts to grab microphone; and hits her arm in the process, to which he responds 'Pardon Me.'
The free press has a right under the first amendment to hold Politicians responsible, and the President labeling CNN, MSNBC, and other left-leaning news as ‘the enemy of the people’ is downright wrong. We stand with Jim Acosta and CNN during these troubling times. Though The Manchester Scoop might not agree with Mr. Acosta's reporting tactics, nothing happened that would warrant the revocation of his press pass, nor the personal attack on Acosta's reputation.
The Manchester Scoop believes it is important for all members of the press, big and small, to stand behind fellow members, regardless of political affiliation. Every member of the press, including us, works for the truth and to provide the public will important knowledge of what happening in their world. This is why we must denounce any actions to derail, or limit these rights.
