K&G will not reopen their Manchester store. K&G Fashion Superstore will not reopen their store this summer after it was officially announced earlier this year; but leaves the possibility for future reopening.
After months of emails to K&G and shopping plazas trying to find the new location, an answer has finally been given. In an email from K&G about the progress and location of their new local store, they said that it would not reopen. The statement reads 'There was an issue securing a new location for the store. Regretfully, the store will not be reopening at this time. Our next closest store to the Manchester, Connecticut area will be the location in Orange.' K&G had a location in Manchester located at the Plaza at Burr Corners, next door to Pilgrim Furniture City. The store closed in April, as Pilgrim Furniture City moved down the plaza, to make way for At Home. At Home, formerly Garden Ridge, is a chain of home decor superstores spread across the country. This will be At Home's first Connecticut store when it opens this summer/fall. The Rite Aid has announced the closure of their Manchester location at 335 Center Street. A liquidation sale has started, everything in the store is 50% off original prices. This location was previously announced as one of the Rite Aid locations to receive rebranding into a Walgreens store. Walgreens has a store about a mile away on Main Street. Walgreens has responded to calls for comment, saying the store will be rebranded as Walgreens after the liquidation sales of remaining Rite Aid assets.
Walgreens sought to buy out Rite Aid last year; but the merger failed due to Anti-Trust concerns along with a planned sale of remaining assets to smaller-chain Fred's Drug. Fred's Drug would nearly triple their store count after the deal. Instead Walgreens bought nearly 2,000 Rite Aid locations from the company after a failed merger last year; almost 600 of these stores would be closed due to their proximity to a competing Walgreens. Recently Albertson's announced that they would acquire the remaining Rite Aid company with the much smaller footprint after the Walgreens sale. Rite Aid had two Manchester locations, the location at 335 Center Street, and a location at 232 Tolland Turnpike (now a Goodwill.) Prescriptions at the Center Street Rite Aid have been transferred to Walgreens at 295 Main Street in Manchester. Image from Google Maps, Google Images |
