Marshalls in Manchester will move from their current location near PC Richard into the Plaza at Buckland Hills! The apparel giant will relocate from their 40,000 square foot store in the PC Richard plaza into the 45,000 square foot former Toys R Us location.
Marshalls, a TJX Company, will move from their current location on the corner of Hale Road and Slater Road into the former Toys R Us location on the opposite side of the mall. The location is in The Plaza at Buckland Hills, renovations on the space have begun, including the gutting of the interior of the space; the intensity of the exterior renovations are unknown at this time; building permits have been filed for the interior renovations, however, no exterior renderings have been released to the public.
The Marshalls store should be open in the new location by October 2019, with their other location closing slightly earlier to prepare for the move. It is unknown at the time whether a moving sale will be held, or if inventory will be moved to the new store once completed. EDC Construction is handling the renovations, and was unable to be reached for comments.
A representative for Marshalls said 'The company does have plans to relocate our Manchester, CT store in or before October 2019. Stay Tuned for details regaring our grand opening! Remember, your surprise is waiting at Marshalls!'
Toys R Us closed last year after filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, after the restructuring failed, the company moved to Chapter 7 bankruptcy and liquidated their stores. These store included both the Toys R Us at The Plaza at Buckland Hills, and the Babies R Us at The Manchester Collection. Toys R Us property owner, Washington Prime Group, announced earlier this month in a letter to investors that a big box retailer had signed a letter of intent for the space.
It is unknown whether there are any plans for the Marshalls space once vacated. The former Bob's Store next door was leased to Urban Air Adventure Park, but work has not been started on the entertainment business. When the Bob's store was being marketed for lease, the space available was 98,000 square feet, which included the 55,000 square foot Bob's Space and the Marshall's space. Its unknown whether Urban Air will take over both spaces, just Bob's, or whether Urban Air is still planning on opening. Urban Air was aiming for a spring opening.
