The Price Chopper in Vernon will close! The Price Chopper located at Tri-City Plaza in Vernon will close on May 28th. An email to employees announced the closure today at 2pm. The store is located in the former Ames space, and before that WT Grants.
Price Chopper will close the decade old store, but will be replaced by another chain store, Shoprite. The Shoprite will be operated by Waverly Markets, owners of both the Manchester and East Hartford Shoprite locations. Employees of Price Chopper are being offered jobs at their sister locations in Newington, Storrs, and Windsor.
Waverly Markets will work with employees of Price Chopper to place them at the Vernon store. In a statement to the press Mona Golub states “It’s never easy to close a store, but imperative to make business decisions that support the company’s continued health and growth." No other Price Chopper location will be affected at this time.
The former store will be subdivided to accommodate another retailer as well. TJX Companies' Homesense will open in a nearly 28,000 square foot portion of the store. This will be Homesense's second Connecticut location, behind their future location in Enfield in the former Bob's Store.
